About Us
New Life Nepal Support Trust was set up in 2015 in order to continue to support our Nepali partners New Life Mission in their work in Dhangadhi, Nepal, although we had been partnering with this Christian family organisation since 1995.
Our aim is to support, through finance, friendship and prayer, the work of our Nepali partners relieving poverty in the Far West of Nepal. We achieve this through our support of Shikhar Hostel which provides a safe refuge for children and young people in need. We also provide funding for scholarships for local children living in poverty through primary and secondary education. Our partners also aim to improve public health through education and practical medical support.

SHIKHAR HosTeL
Shikhar Hostel provides accommodation for anyone needing a safe, affordable local place to stay in the short term, for example: secondary school students who need to be near their school while preparing and taking final exams.
It also provides a home for children who are either orphans or whose families are unable to look after them for any reason. The children are able to stay for however long is needed. The Nepalese House parents supply all of their needs: care, food, clothing and access to education.
Since opening in 2000 several children have completed school and gone on to college and employment, including careers in the local hospital and medical centres, establishing their own businesses and continuing in academia. Other children have been able to return to their families as circumstances changed, as contact is always maintained with families wherever possible.
Hostel staff fulfil the role of parents for these children and it is a happy place for all.
Education Project
Our partners started a scholarship programme several years ago because some local children were unable to attend school due to poverty (Education is not paid for by the state in Nepal). We now have 20 local children who we are supporting through primary school and we expect that this will rise over time.
The risk was that these children would end up begging, remain illiterate (currently only 28% of females and 43% of males are able to read to a primary age level in Nepal) or being trafficked into work or the sex trade.
Our commitment to our donors
The Nepali partners are in regular contact with the local schools and re-assess each child annually – both the family’s needs and whether the child is engaging in their education. We anticipate supporting each child into secondary education only after careful evaluation to ensure it meets their needs
You can help by donating £17 per month (the cost of a coffee a week) which will cover the costs for one child to receive a primary education and this will change their life. Secondary education costs £37 per month (coffee and a sandwich?) and is a strong pathway to employment in Nepal.
We do not ask you to commit for multiple years, although it is great if you can. This is why we do not allocate sponsors to specific children.

The trust are actively engaged in supporting adults and children either directly or indirectly with schools and adult education projects
